Kid-Friendly Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta

Trying to lose weight and find recipes that my kids liked was always a challenge. If we could eat like kids as adults, wouldn’t it be great, but if I ate like my picky kid, I would never have been able to lose 40 pounds. 

It is my goal to find healthy, delicious, kid-friendly meals. This one does not disappoint. In fact, when I cook it, my picky kid will have two to three bowls in on sitting. 

This bacon cheeseburger pasta tastes like a box of hamburger helper. Except that in this recipe you can eat a full cup for 330 calories. In hamburger helper, 1/4 cup is 330 calories. Home cooking is always better than processed, boxed food. 

In this recipe I use whole wheat elbow macaroni, which is where the 12-minute boil time come in. If you are using other types of pasta, be sure to account your cook time. You could use white pasta, or any kind of veggie pasta that you like.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta

This definitely will become a family favorite. It is cheesy, smoky and delicious. It is inspired by all the days in my childhood eating Hamburger Helper.

  • 1 skillet with lid
  • 1 Cutting board


  • 1 cup diced onions a small onion
  • 1 lb ground turkey or ground beef
  • 2 slices of thick cut bacon
  • 2 tbsp oil avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika paprika would work too
  • 1 ½ cup whole wheat elbow pasta
  • 3 ½ cups water or beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded american cheese
  • 2 tsp corn starch


  • Add oil to the skillet and heat on low
  • When oil is heated add bacon and onions and sautee for 2-3 minutes or until onions are soft
  • Add turkey meat and brown until it is almost cooked through about 5-7 minutes
  • Add the pasta, water and seasonings, stir the seasoning well and then flatten out pasta to make sure it is all covered by the water or broth.
  • Cover and bring to a boil for 12 minutes. Cook time will vary with the type of pasta used)
  • After your pasta is cooked add cheddar and American cheese and stir until it melts.
  • Mix your cornstarch with 2 tsp of water and stir.
  • Add cornstarch to the pot and stir until it thickens. Add until your desired thickness.
